Export contacts from an iPhone or iPad to a computer by using iCloud. First, make sure your Contacts are being synced to iCloud by opening the Settings app and selecting iCloud. You need to be signed in with your Apple ID and make sure the Contacts slider is turned on. This will upload your contacts to Apple’s servers in the cloud.

On your computer, you can then go to https://www.icloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID and password. Once signed in, you can select the Contacts icon to see all your contacts. Any changes you make from this screen will automatically be updated on all your devices.

To export your contacts, select the gear icon in the bottom left of the window, select all your contacts, and choose Export vCard. This will save all your contacts to a file on your computer.

The purpose of iCloud is to automatically keep information synced between all your devices. When you update information on any device, those changes are automatically pushed to all devices.

If you don’t want to use iCloud to export your contacts, there are apps available in the App Store that will download contacts from your iPhone to a computer. I haven’t used any of these apps, so I can’t provide any recommendations on their use.
